Bill coached Bishop Eustace Prepatory School from 1959 to 65 where his teams won South Jersey and Conference Titles in ' 60 and ' 61 and the State Parochial Championship in 1961. In 1957, he became active as a baseball manager of Schillig's Blackhorse Farms baseball team in the strong Camden County League from 1957 to 1960. In 1957 his team had a record of 24 wins and 11 losses and in 1958, their record was 30 wins and only 4 losses. They won the Camden County League Championship in both 1957 and 1958. Bill was awarded the first annual Al Kingsmore Memorial SportsmanshipAward" by the Independent Umpires Association.
As both a baseball and football player, Schillig had talent. But it was his coaching that brought him notoriety after he suffered a broken leg that was so severe that he lost part of the leg due to infection.
Schillig was inducted into the Bishop Eustace Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. Among those who played for him are South Jersey Hall of Famers Chuck Bearint, Stan "Whitey" Bialkowski, Billy Davidson, Jerry Gold, Sal Nardello, Art Watson and Bob Winters.Bill is now retired and lives in Cherry Hill, NJ.
